Scholarships offered by the Japanese Government 文部科学省 (Monbukagakusho)
1. (As of May 1, 2015) Less than 5% of International Students have received this scholarship. Round trip plane tickets and living expenses are provided to the student and school fees are waived. However the applicant may not receive another scholarships after that.

2. Scholarships offered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)
- Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students
For international students whose living expenses are financially privately, they are provided with a monthly stipend of ¥48,000 (For students enrolled in a Japanese language school, it is ¥30,000) Students with excellent results on their EJU are eligible to participate in an advanced reservation program. As of June 15, 2015, less than 3% of international students have received this scholarship.
- Student Exchange Support Program (Scholarship for short-term Study in Japan)
This scholarship is awarded for students whose enrolled in institutions that provided higher education in other countries. These institutions have cooperative agreements for student exchange with other Japanese institutions. These students must be participating in a study program that goes longer than 8 days but does not go over a year. Students are awarded a monthly stipend of ¥80,000. As of September 1, 2015, less than 4% of international students have received this scholarship.

3. Scholarships offered by Local Governments and International Exchange Organization
Scholarships are provided by Japan’s local government bodies that are affiliated to international exchange organizations. Almost all of the scholarships award a few thousand or ten thousand yen each month and, in most cases, are not allowed to receive any other scholarships.
4. Scholarships offered by the Private Scholarships Foundation
These scholarships are offered by private foundations or by privately-held companies. The scholarships reflect the organization or businesses’ purposes or qualities. Keep in mind, students that receive this scholarship cannot receive any other scholarship.
Requirement: (You must be) studying at a certain institution, studying a particular specialization, or coming from a certain country.
