In Japanese, there are many words that sound the same but have different meanings, and there are a variety of kanji used in people's names. It is very rude to make a mistake in the name of a business partner or boss. When taking notes during a phone call, be sure to ask the person on the other end which kanji to write. Also, before sending e-mails or other documents, make sure that all kanji are written correctly.
