1. Kanji and people's names
漢字と名前
In Japanese, there are many words that sound the same but have different meanings, and there are a variety of kanji used in people's names. It is very rude to make a mistake in the name of a business partner or boss. When taking notes during a phone call, be sure to ask the person on the other end which kanji to write. Also, before sending e-mails or other documents, make sure that all kanji are written correctly.

【あく】
開く: open
ドア / 鍵 が開く
The door opens. / The lock opens.
空く: be vacant
なかなか席が空かない

【あやまる】
誤る: make a mistake
重要な局面で判断を誤った。
I made a wrong judgment in the critical situation.
謝る:apologize
素直な心で謝る
apologize honestly

【こえる】
超える: exceed
エレベーターは定員を超えると、ブザーが鳴る。
When the elevator reaches capacity, a buzzer sounds.
越える:to cross , to go over
打球がネットを越える
The ball goes over the net.

【 つとめる】
務める: to do one’s role , to perform one’s duty
司会を務める
to be an MC
勤める:to work , to be employed
製薬会社に勤める
to work for a pharmaceutical company

【なおす】
置す: to correct
作文 / 誤字 を直す
to improve an essay / to correct the wrong letter
治す:to heal , to cure
休養して風邪を治す
to take a rest to cure one’s cold
