Japan is currently experiencing its fourth wave of COVID as Osaka sees a steep increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.
It is said that 1,000 cases will be reported in Osaka for the first time today.
The spread of variant strains of COVID is rapidly occuring in a Japan that is still in the beginning stages of its vaccination program.
Variant strains also differ by cities with the Brazlian strain more commonly detected in Tokyo cases and the UK strain more commonly found in Osaka.

The Olympic torch was carried through an empty park in Osaka today as part of COVID preventive measures where gathering is strictly advised against.

As for vaccinations, Japan has completed vaccinating its medical workers and begun its rounds for the elderly on Monday.
The next batch of recipients would be those with underlying medical conditions, followed by the general public.
