【Hiring a foreigner based overseas】

*The following procedures are based on the case study of hiring a Singaporean based in Singapore. (i.e. hiring a foreigner who is not already in Japan) Required documents and waiting times may differ depending on the country*

1. Company decides to hire the individual

2. Company checks whether hiree is eligible for Visa

3. Company sends employment contract to hiree

4. Hiree signs the contract upon receiving it

5. Hiree prepares the necessary documents for Visa application
Company is to inform the hiree on what documents are required

6. Hiree sends the signed employment contract, as well as all the necessary documents to the company

7. Company submits the documents to the Immigration Bureau of Japan

8. Wait for results (about 3 months)

9. If successful, the immigration bureau will send the Certificate of Eligibility to the company

10. Company sends the certificate to hiree

11. Hiree applies for Visa at the Japan Embassy in his/her country
Certificate of Eligibility, passport and several other documents are required
Takes about 5 working days to process, information on collection date is released immediately upon submission of documents.
There are usually no issues if all the required documents have been submitted properly.

12. Hiree collects Visa from the Embassy
After this, he/she may proceed to make housing arrangements, air ticket reservations and so on.
*The expiry date of the visa is 3 months from the date of issue. Do ensure that you enter Japan before the expiry date.
*If you miss the expiry date, you will have to apply for the visa all over again.
