Preventing Hay Fever:
1. Wear a mask
Get a mask that fits your face
Insert a wet tissue between 2 masks. The wet tissue helps to trap pollen so be sure to keep it moist!

2. Clothing
Use a softener when doing your laundry. Softeners remove the static electricity on your clothes which would otherwise attract pollen.
Avoid purchasing clothes made of material that pollen tend to adhere to e.g. wool
Polyester is a safe choice

3. House
Keep the windows open 10cm wide. This is enough for air to circulate yet prevent too much pollen from entering. You can use lace curtains and screens to help block out the pollen.

4. Bathroom
Your bathroom mat is able to trap pollen, so be sure to wash them regularly!

5. Makeup
Wearing makeup prevents pollen from getting into direct contact with your skin.

Remedies for Hay Fever:
1. Soothe your eyes with damp cloth

2. Keep your nose and throat moist

3. Acupuncture- press the acupuncture points on your nose 50 to 60 times as shown in the picture. This will help to clear your nose

4. Over-the-counter medications such as pills and drips
*Anti-allergy drugs vs Anti-histamines
The former prevents the production of histamines which brings about the onset of allergic reactions.
The latter, however, is suited to ease allergic reactions like itch and sneezing after their onset.

5. Treatment at the hospital (possible types)
a. gradual exposure to small amounts of allergens
b. laser therapy on the mucous membrane (lasts about 2 years)

Other tips:
1. Refrain from alcohol and smoking
Alcohol dilates blood vessels which can lead to blood congesting in your eyes and nose.
Compounds in cigarette smoke further agitate the mucous membrane of the nose.

2. Avoid allergy-inducing foods

3. Lead a healthy, stress-free lifestyle and get sufficient amount of sleep
