What possibilities are there?
There are several different possibilities if you are looking for an apartment. They vary depending on how long you plan on staying in Japan.
I recommend international students to visit the university website. Most of the time, you will find apartments to be quite cheap. These prices only apply to registered students of the offering universities.
The following websites offer apartments, and some of them might be furnished:
https://www.gaijinapartmenthelper.com/rent/osaka/
https://en.leopalace21.com/
https://realestate.co.jp/en
Furthermore, guesthouses or sharehouses offer very good alternatives to apartments. As the name already suggests, these are accommodations in which you mostly share the place with other people. This can also be divided into places where you have a private room or a shared room. The rooms usually are furnished and you’ll usually find a fully equipped kitchen and shared bathrooms. The following describes the way how I found my sharehouse:
During my research, I found this website: http://www.guesthousebank.com/a_area/o_kansai/L_en/. On this website, you can choose between different sharehouses and, at the same time, see how many rooms are still available and how much they are. I wrote to many sharehouses and received a reply from J&F House in Osaka the next day. This sharehouse stood out because of its great access to my workplace. The first visit and the payment of the deposit ran smoothly. The fully furnished kitchen, as well as the great amount of internationals add up to a very relaxed life. That’s why I definitely recommend this sugoi place!
Other alternatives are the following websites:
http://roommate.jp/
http://roomshare.jp/en
Unfortunately the roommate.jp-website is only available in Japanese, roomshare.jp offers an English translation. However, in times of Google Translate you are also able to use roommate.jp through immediate translation. Both websites offer rooms in private homes, shared rooms or rooms in sharehouses and are therefore a great option to find a place to live.
